 In recent years, Iowa has experienced numerous extreme weather events - including the 2020 Derecho, sporadic but consistent tornadic activity, frequent hail storms, and more. In fact, the past five years has cost more environmental and property damage than any five-year period in Iowa's history. The Iowa Environment Council's climatology report indicates that these weather events are likely to occur at even more frequent rates, and with increased severity. The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation's Climate Assessment points to the same outlook: increased storm activity, with increased severity.
